On the way home, through possibly one of the hottest days of summer in NY, I walked by an old-age-home. Discomforted by the heat, I wished to be inside the soothing shelter of my home as soon as possible, when my eyes fell on these eyes, looking at me through the glass-wall. They were watching me, with a blissful smile on these shrilled, pale lips. There was a smile on there, not outright, but evident. There was this lady, on a wheel chair, behind these glass walls of this old-age-home, watching me pass by. Her eyes didn't leave mine, I didn't let them go. It may have lasted for 3 seconds, but the message went across.
"The capacity to walk free, in open, without another's help was a gift to cherish."
